All the Things I Love About You
By LeUyen Pham
A wonderful story about the love between a mother and son. A parent may not like their children all of the time, but no matter what their child does they will always love them.
The pictures in this book are just amazing. This book give a great insight into the bond of a mother and son.
Simone has her life together, she has supportive parents and she even gets along with her younger brother. She is doing well in school and even have a small close knit group of friends. When her guidance counselor tells her she need to get involved more at the school Simone joins the Atheist Student Alliance and school paper. Her life is going great until Rivka her actual mother wants to meet with Simone. Simone always knew she was adopted but never thought of meeting with her biological mom. After speaking to another student, who was adopted, tells her that he wished he could have met his, Simone decides to take the chance. Getting to know her mother is not an easy especially when she finds out her mother has cancer and is Hasidic-Jewish background.
I listened to this book on audio, and I loved it. I could feel for her and thinking how hard it could be to reunite with your biological mother especially under the circumstances of her mother.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is adopted, has a different faith, and wants to figure out life.
The name of the book was The First Part Last by Angela Johnson. She is a two-time Coretta Scott King Award winner.
This story is about a 16 year old boy named Bobby and how he decides to be a parent to his daughter, Feather. All Bobby wants to do is live life the way he planned it. His best friends are K-Boy and J.L. who live life without worries.Unfortunately for Bobby, his girlfriend, Nia shows up at his stoop with a balloon and tells him she’s pregnant. Bobby’s world is forever changed. his book was broken down into “then” and “now.” “then” describe the pregnancy of Nia and “now” refers to the struggles of Bobby raising his daughter.
Most of the action of this book takes place in apartment complex. The one thing that I did not like was the book was broken down into “then” and “now” I felt a little confused. I have never read a book from the from this author, Angela Johnson, but I would like to read more of her books.
